When I competed in my first mountain bike race when I was 13, I got a flat tire and broke my chain twice. There was about 10" of snow and it was 25 degrees - seemingly a bad experience, but I was instantly hooked and began working at a bike shop the following spring. 18 years later, I am still a bike mechanic and continuing to use my knowledge and skills to better serve the cycling community.
When I first interviewed with the Biked Co-founders and they explained their vision to me, I knew right away that what they were describing was ‘the missing piece to the puzzle’ in the bicycle service industry.
Participating in the Chupacabras 100k mountain bike race in Juarez, Mexico was quite possibly one of the oddest experiences of my life. Racing in a country where I did not speak the language definitely added to the experience on top of being one of 3500+ racers.
I ended up finishing 112th despite starting at the back of the pack and getting a flat time one mile from the finish. Winning the Michigan State Championship and overall series is definitely a memory highlight as well.
Hmmm...this is a tough one. I do like to crash... I lost a bet once and had to do a time trial in cut-off jeans....I got 2nd place in a downhill race (in Michigan) on a single speed hardtail with just a rear mechanical disc brake that said "chicken hawk" on the downtube... And I’m sure there are plenty of others I’m forgetting.
The future. The cycling industry has changed so much in the past 5 years, especially since covid. Bicycle manufacturers are increasingly going Direct-to-Consumer, which is having a huge impact on the bike retail sector. Biked is an innovative, progressive company that is on top of these changes in the industry. Biked just makes sense, not only as a fantastic business opportunity in and of itself, but for bicycle manufacturers, employees and most importantly the customer.
